post femme conference love, love, LOVE I AM LOVING Zuleikha, Leah, Cherry, Ana, Pidge, Hazel, Julia, Davey, Bevin, Myasia, and everyone else who made my Femme Conference great and sweet. I AM LOVING the Femme Sharks and Sea Creature Allies. I AM LOVING Leah for reminding me, again and again, what family we choose can look like. How family does not need to be a place that's fractured, how family can be something that is beloved and precious. I AM LOVING Dorothy Allison and Julia Serano's FUCKING AMAZING keynotes that made me cry, cry cry in all the best ways. I AM LOVING Julia's hug and sweetness and offer of lunch sometime. I AM LOVING that Zuleikha have I known each other for so long and held each other through so much. I AM LOVING that when we were crying on each other after both speeches, Zuleikha shouted through her tears, "NEVER FORGET YOU'RE A GODDAMN SHARK!" I AM LOVING being up onstage in cleavage-baring dresses and glitter and high high heels. I AM LOVING that the stage is fun for me, not scary, not nerves all jangled up, just pure bubbling joy. I AM LOVING Jordan, her fierceness, love, wit, and pretty eyelashes. I AM LOVING Aidan for being there for me, through thick and fucking thin, for years. I am loving his excellent and fearless balance of sarcasm and compassion. I AM LOVING being in love with Tobi -- late night phone conversations and giggles, cracking dirty jokes like 13 y/o boys and talking politics like rilly serious ladies, fucking that makes me feel present, dearly held, and like the best sweet dirty girl. I AM LOVING being ferociously loving and filthy with her and other people. I AM LOVING being open-hearted. I AM LOVING all of my lovers, and all that they give me. I AM LOVING all of my friends, and all that they give me. I AM LOVING being in love AND being a slut AND not letting any of my love relationships come before my love for myself. (To quote the Femme Sharks' zine: "THEIR DICK IS NOT GOLD-PLATED, BUT *YOU* GODDAMN *ARE*!") I AM LOVING the conference make-outs at the back of two bars, at the 4am renegade naked pool party where people played "Marco Polo" by shouting "Dorothy... ALLISON!", at the soda machine at 5 in the morning. I AM LOVING being a giant flirt and an exhibitionist. I AM LOVING my chin whiskers and small feet, big tits and soft belly, round face and curly hair, tattoos and scars. I AM BELIEVING THAT THESE THINGS MAKE ME MORE BEAUTIFUL, NOT LESS! I AM LOVING myself, all the ways I never thought I could. I AM LETTING GO all the things I used to count as defects, as shame, as secrets -- they no longer hold power over or define me. I AM LOVING being the mama to lots of chosen fam. I AM LOVING being the daughter who carries on the right legacies and ends the painful ones. I AM LOVING making choices that are good for me. I AM LOVING the fierceness and power of being a pretty girl and a grown woman. I AM LOVING being tough and sweet. I AM LOVING living in my body and my heart like they are the best places ever, BECAUSE THEY FUCKING ARE! THANK YOU Femme Conference. THANK YOU Leah, THANK YOU Zuleikha. I love you -- you're my family and my heart. Current Mood: beloved, loving, & sharkyCurrent Music: "I won't change my life, my life's just fine!" |

Pagans in the Bay Area TransGender, GenderQueer, OtherGender folks of a pagan spiritual inclination may be interested in this work I'm doing with Reclaiming's Spiral Dance this November 1. All are welcome. Information about Spiral Dance can be found here: http://www.reclaiming.org/rituals/samhain.htmlI'm seeking people who feel called to invoke and dance Transgender, Othergender, Gender-Free, and Gender-Rebel Holy Ones during Spiral Dance. You don't have to identify any particular way in your daily life, although that may help you connect to Whomever you invoke. You should be eager to invoke (and portray through costume and dance) a Deity or Mysterious One who is not binary-gendered: examples include Ardhanarisvara, Hermaphroditus, Pales, Wadj-wer, Baphometis, and Swaitowid, among others. Many Deities that are commonly seen as binary-gendered also have "hidden" othergendered sides. We will do some exploring with the aid of Raven Kaldera's book Hermaphrodeities and some other secondary literature to help us connect to Whomever we choose/are chosen by. (A simple explanation of "invoke" the way I'm using it here: inviting a Deity or aspect of the Divine to be present at a ritual by manifesting Their characteristics; at Spiral Dance, this is usually done through costume and, of course, dance.) The dance will be very short, and most of it will actually consist of holding space for other dancers. I have taken it as a sacred charge not to add length to the ritual as planned; please join me in that commitment and hold that intention with me. If you're interested, please email me at kereth at gmail dot com. When we have five or so interested people, we'll meet to discover Who will be dancing us. Every blessing, Kerrick |

Randomly sifting through community news... I read a website on intentional communities these days, and spotted an ad for a new community forming near Asheville. Huh, I think, I wonder how they get along with the Zendiks. So I surfed over to their website and who should I see looking back at me? (Scroll down a bit.) |

Basic Accounts, India, and LiveJournal Inc. Development Goals and Basic Accounts Last week we updated our development goals for 2008. Generally we noted a number of cool enhancements and investments to LiveJournal that we are working on, including improved search, usability, and site development. We also wanted to let you know how we hope to accomplish all these things, and how we plan on paying for them. In order to accomplish our stated goals for this year and beyond, we need to increase the revenue gained from both groups of LiveJournal accounts: paid subscription accounts and ad-supported accounts. As of August 28th, all users will be able to choose to downgrade their account to Basic through their Manage Account page. Additionally, we will start showing advertising to visitors who are not logged in to LiveJournal when they are looking at Basic Account journals and communities. Basic Account users themselves will not see ads on any Basic journal or community while they are logged in to their account. If you want more information about this, take a look at our new post on lj_2008 where we outline our reasoning. Indian Flash Fiction Contest In other news, we are excited to tell you we've launched "Quick Tales" LiveJournal's first initiative for users in India, in celebration of India Independence day, August 15th. "Quick Tales" is a flash fiction writing contest in which we're partnering with Caferati.com, one of India's largest online literary communites. The contest's winners will receive some great prizes and it is open to anyone with a mailing address in India. We hope that users with an interest in Indian writing or just India will watch LiveJournal's india_writing community. That's where the finalists and winners will be announced, so keep an eye on it towards the end of September! If you're in India then enter the contest - if your story is slick and quick (under 500 words) then you could be the lucky winner! Meanwhile, back at LiveJournal Inc. We have updated and redesigned our corporate site. The goal of the redesign was twofold: first, to update the look and feel (Dystopia users will appreciate it!); second, we want to provide a destination for prospective employees, partners, and members of the press where they can access important information about the company. Kudos to our design team. |

The food meme interests me. Most don't. Here we go; stuff I've had in bold, stuff I can't see myself eating again (or ever) in strikethrough: (some things I don't know what they are) |

things i will do in san francisco some day -- a running list Hanging out with Lauren last night, wandering through the foggy South of Market streets in search of a dance club that wasn't 20 goddamn dollars (why so spensivo, Bondage-a-go-go?!), we got on to the topic of things we like to do in San Francisco, and things we've never done in SF that we're still meaning to do. "What if you had to leave?" Lauren asked me. "What if you got some amazing fellowship to go somewhere else, or grad school whisked you away to a far-away land like... uh, Santa Cruz?" I laughed. "No, really, is there anything you want to do here that you haven't done yet?" I realized that even though I grew up in San Francisco, have lived here most of my adult life, and have certainly had my share of San Francisco Adventures, there's still some stuff on my list. TO DO, SOME DAY: - Bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. I ride my little pink bike around to get to work and readings and whatnot, but I definitely don't do enough riding just for the sheer joy of it. And as cheezy as it is, the Golden Gate is pretty, and breathing in ocean air while you bike is a fantastic feeling. - Have sex on or around Folsom Street, preferably in the one of the little alleyways named after the Gold Rush madams. I've had a fair amount of public sex in San Francisco, but none of it has happened South of Market. This seems like something I should remedy, given the neighborhoods' deeply queer sexual history. - Actually go to a service at Most Holy Redeemer. This is the Catholic church in the Castro with a majority of queer members. It's not a specifically LGBT church, but it might as well be from everything I've heard. Dude, why have I not gone to Gay Mass yet? - Only kinda relatedly: Go to Sisters Bingo. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence -- the group of activist drag nuns who work their asses off for exceedingly good causes -- host a bingo game on a semi-regular basis. Dude, why have I not gone to Drag Nun Bingo? I'm sure there's more, but that's my list for now. What's yours, for your town? Anything specific to your home that you've been meaning to do, but haven't yet? |
